Content Editors are effectively the “owners” of all content within a section of the website. Some Editors will have responsibility for a number of sections. Although not preferred, where it cannot be avoided, some sections will have separate Editors for individual pages or sub-sections.

More specifically, each Content Editor will carry out most, if not all, of the following:

Content Updates

  • Agree all content change and development requests, including related and external links
  • Liaise with Contribute user(s) and/or the central Web Team to schedule all agreed content updates as required (see below for further details)

Content Improvement

  • Link with relevant staff across the Service and/or Council to ensure complete content coverage within the section
  • Engage with other Content Editors and the Web Team to request related links, highlight out-of-date or inaccurate content, suggest possible features etc.
  • Use the wider website regularly to increase awareness of new developments and possible additional related links both within and beyond the section

Monitoring and Quality Assurance

  • Monitor usage statistics to provide management information and inform the direction of future content development
  • Review content to ensure the currency, relevance and accuracy of information and links (both internal and external)
  • Ensure awareness of, and compliance with, all relevant publishing guidance and standards

Developments

  • Arrange with the Web Team for facilities and training to be provided to nominated Contribute users where appropriate
  • Receive regular communications from the Web Team which will maintain awareness of general website activities and should be actioned and/or passed on as appropriate

Contribute

Macromedia Contribute is a simple Content Management System (CMS) which will allow Service staff to write and publish their own content directly. For sections where updates are limited in extent and/or infrequent, content publication will continue to be undertaken by the Web Team.

Where required or desirable, a two-tier approach to publishing will be available where users can be designated as Writers and/or Publishers. Writers will edit and create web pages within designated sections of the site and pass these for review. Publishers will review changes and publish web pages once they are satisfied. Content Editors can choose to carry out either or both of these roles themselves or delegate content publishing duties as required.
